Current Bike(s): K1200LT Year started riding: 1996 Favorite ride: Falling Leaf Rally, Potosi, MO Previous Bike(s): Yamaha Virago, Pacific Coast, BMW K1100LT |
I started riding in 1996 after attending the MC Riders training at UIUC and I highly recommend this training even for the experienced rider.
My first ride was a 92 or 93 (750) Yamaha Virago. A year later I traded for a Honda Pacific Coast. The following year I bought my first new BMW, a K1100LT and just a year later I traded for the K1200LT, which I still have.
My favorite ride was two years ago to the Falling Leaf rally in Potosi, Missouri. Even though I had a crash and could not ride for several weeks, I want to go back and do it right!
My best times are riding with a group for breakfast or dinner.
My longest trip was to my first Nationals held in Midland, MI. My wife, Dorlene, rode with me. We did well over a thousand miles in a very short time (fell off once). Dorlene has not ridden since. I am still interested in taking a long, slow trip some time with lots of stops in between. I just need to find some uncommitted time.
My most memorable ride was last fall to Lake City, MI. I broke down and was surprised with how people reached out to help. I rode up with Dave and Cindy Nelson they owned an HD at the time and I have been told how this should have been the other way around. They stayed with me even after I insisted they leave as I had help coming. Rick and Margie Kallmayer drove all the way from Ogden to Lake City to get me on a day that was meant to be a relaxing holiday, Wow, MC buddies are great!
I have two daughters, Elisha and Sonya, and three grandchildren.
